JAGO - Silence
A 7 Days to Die mod by AMG5TAG. Version 1.0.0 for game version 3.4; installs on the server and client. Category: Utilities.
Switch off exactly the sounds that bother you: 38 targeted switches (generators, traps, turrets, fires, alarms and more), 14 category switches and one for everything, with Gears toggles.
Description
A late-game base gets noisy: generators droning, battery banks humming, blade traps grinding, turrets whirring, and fire-heavy POIs that roar because vanilla lets 18 copies of the same fire loop play at once. JAGO - Silence lets you switch off exactly the sounds that bother you and keep everything else.
There are 38 targeted switches for specific noise sources, 14 whole-category switches and one switch that silences every sound in sounds.xml. With Gears installed, each one is a simple Normal / Silenced toggle in Esc > Mods. Out of the box it only quiets the constant base hums (power banks, blade and dart traps, electric fences, turret idle loops) and tames fire stacking. Everything else stays vanilla until you choose otherwise.
The tooltips are honest about trade-offs. Silencing a sound does not change how much noise it makes to zombies, and every switch that would remove a gameplay cue (alarms, bleeding, quest boundary and so on) is flagged with a warning.
Features
- 38 targeted switches (35 sound switches and 3 gameplay or range tweaks):
- Power: generator banks and large POI generators, solar banks, battery banks, power start and stop sounds.
- Traps: blade traps, dart traps, electric fences, flame traps.
- Turrets: idle, overheat, retarget and wind-up loops; firing (auto and junk turret).
- Fires: fire loops (burning barrels, campfires and POI fires).
- Ambience: fridges and coolers, CRT TVs, neon signs, flags, flies and insect swarms, torches.
- Alarms: POI house and business alarms, car alarms.
- Workstations: cement mixer, apiary and chicken coop.
- Vehicles: gyrocopter, minibike and motorbike, 4x4 truck, bicycle, junk drone, burning engines.
- Player: sprint breathing, bleeding and stun loops, death stinger, quest-boundary warning.
- Powered tools: auger, chainsaw, charged stun baton loop.
- Twitch: hordestone loop.
- 14 category switches: zombies and enemies, animals, footsteps, impacts and block damage, explosions, doors and machines, ambient loops, weapons, tools, vehicles, player sounds, traders and voice-over, menus and inventory, Twitch integration.
- Silence Everything: one switch for every sound in sounds.xml. Music, weather and biome ambience (wind, rain, birds) and sounds built into models are not in that file, so they keep playing.
- Reduce trap zombie noise (off by default): blade, dart and flame trap noise to zombies 30 to 15, and the blade and dart loops add far less to the zombie heat map. This is a real gameplay change.
- Shrink fire audible range (on by default): small and medium fires and ember smoke can be heard from less far away. Close-up volume is unchanged.
- Cap stacked fire sounds (on by default): at most 6 copies of each fire loop play at once instead of 18.
- Sounds are silenced by pointing them at the game's own silent clip, so their zombie noise value is left untouched.
- A server settings template (SERVER-SETTINGS-TEMPLATE.txt) with every switch and its default.
- English, German and Spanish text.
Settings
All settings are in Gears under JAGO - Silence (Esc > Mods). Changes apply on the next world load.
- Sound switches: Normal / Silenced. The three tweaks (Reduce trap zombie noise, Shrink fire audible range, Cap stacked fire sounds): Off / On.
- Silenced or On by default: Generator banks, Solar banks, Battery banks, Blade traps, Dart traps, Electric fences, Turret idle loops, Shrink fire audible range, Cap stacked fire sounds.
- Normal or Off by default: everything else, including all 14 category switches, Silence Everything and Reduce trap zombie noise.
- Without Gears, the 9 defaults above apply automatically and nothing else can be changed.
- Dedicated server: merge the block from SERVER-SETTINGS-TEMPLATE.txt into the server's Gears settings file (Linux: ~/.local/share/7DaysToDie/Gears/ModSettings.xml, Windows: %AppData%/Roaming/7DaysToDie/Gears/ModSettings.xml) and restart. The server's values apply to everyone in multiplayer.
Compatibility
- Silencing never lowers a sound's zombie noise, apart from "Reduce trap zombie noise". Alarms, augers, chainsaws, turrets and traps still attract zombies when muted.
- Conflicts with other mods that change the same sound clips, voice limits or audio ranges in sounds.xml. Load order decides.
Requirements
- XML only, no DLL, so it works with EasyAntiCheat on.
- Gears (Mod Settings Manager) is optional, for the in-game switches.
- Install on the server. In multiplayer the client discards its own sounds config and uses the server's, so the settings are server-wide. Also install it on clients for single player and to see the Gears menu.
- Unzip into your Mods folder and keep the folder name as shipped (ZZ-AMG5TAG-JAGO-Silence): the ZZ- prefix sets the load order.
- Each JAGO mod is independent and works standalone.
Installation
Step 1: Install JAGO - Silence on the server (or your own game in single player). Installing it on players' games as well does no harm.
Step 2: Download the zip and unzip it into the game's Mods folder, so you end up with Mods/ZZ-AMG5TAG-JAGO-Silence/ModInfo.xml. For the game that is the Mods folder in the install folder (in Steam: right-click 7 Days to Die > Manage > Browse local files; create Mods if it isn't there). For a dedicated server it is the Mods folder next to the server executable.
Step 3: Keep the folder name ZZ-AMG5TAG-JAGO-Silence exactly as it is: the ZZ- prefix sets the load order. Don't put it inside another folder.
Step 4: XML only, no DLL: it works with EasyAntiCheat on.
Step 5: Optional: install Gears (Mod Settings Manager) to change the settings in game. Without it the defaults are used.
Step 6: In multiplayer the server's sound settings apply to everyone. Install it on your own game too for single player or to see the Gears menu.
Step 7: Start (or restart) the server and the game. To update, delete the old folder and unzip the new version the same way.
