Armor and Clothing
Armor and clothing protect you from zombie attacks, environmental damage, and temperature extremes. Gear is organized into sets and slots covering the head, chest, arms, legs, and feet, and each piece contributes to your overall protection and mobility.
Armor Weight Classes
Armor comes in three broad weight classes, each with trade-offs.
- Light: low protection but minimal penalties to stamina and movement; ideal for scavengers and agile builds.
- Medium: a balanced option offering solid defense with moderate mobility costs.
- Heavy: the highest protection at the cost of increased stamina drain and noise, best for front-line fighters.
Armor Sets and Slots
Full sets are assembled from matching pieces across the body slots. Wearing a complete set often grants a set bonus, so it pays to collect and equip matching gear rather than mixing at random.
Modifications
- Armor can be enhanced with mods that add pockets, insulation, muffling, or extra protection.
- Slots for mods depend on the piece and its quality tier.
- Repair kits keep armor functional as it takes damage in combat.
Clothing and Environment
Beyond combat protection, clothing manages temperature. The right outfit keeps you warm in cold biomes like the snow and cool in hot regions like the desert.
- Warm clothing prevents freezing debuffs at night and in snowy areas.
- Light, breathable clothing helps avoid heat stroke in the desert.
- Some items provide utility bonuses such as extra carrying capacity or improved stealth.
Tips
- Match your weight class to your playstyle; heavy armor is wasteful for a stealth archer.
- Keep a spare warm outfit for exploring cold biomes.
- Prioritize armor mods that address your weaknesses, such as muffled boots for quiet movement.
- Repair gear before a blood moon so it does not fail mid-fight.
