Attributes and Skills
Attributes and skills form the character progression system in 7 Days to Die. By investing points earned through leveling, you shape your survivor's strengths, from combat and crafting to stealth and stamina.
The Five Attributes
Character development is organized under five core attributes, each governing a related group of perks and playstyles.
- Perception: ranged precision, especially rifles and spears, plus detection and salvaging skills.
- Strength: melee power, mining and harvesting efficiency, and carrying-focused abilities.
- Fortitude: health, stamina, resistance to ailments, and brawling or heavy-hitting combat.
- Agility: speed, stealth, light weapons like pistols and knives, and athletic movement.
- Intellect: crafting, vehicles, trading, medicine, and support tools like turrets.
Raising an attribute increases its baseline effect and unlocks the ability to invest deeper into the perks beneath it.
Skills and Perks
Beneath each attribute sit perks, the specific skills you rank up to gain concrete bonuses. An attribute acts as a gate: many perks require a minimum attribute level before you can invest further ranks.
- Spend skill points to raise attributes or purchase perk ranks.
- Higher attribute levels open higher perk ranks.
- Perks deliver tangible benefits such as more damage, faster crafting, or better loot handling.
Earning Points
You earn skill points by leveling up your character through experience. Each point can be freely allocated, letting you specialize or spread your investment.
Building a Character
Because points are limited, planning matters. Focusing on one or two attributes creates a strong specialist, while spreading points makes a flexible generalist.
- Match attribute investment to your preferred weapons and role.
- Consider crafting and utility perks under Intellect for long-term self-sufficiency.
- Books, magazines, and gear can supplement your skills beyond raw points.
Tips
- Decide early whether you want to be a ranged, melee, stealth, or support survivor.
- Invest in the attribute that supports your main weapon type.
- Balance combat perks with quality-of-life skills like carrying capacity and crafting.
Thoughtful attribute and skill choices define how your survivor thrives.
