Blood Moon Horde
The Blood Moon Horde is the signature event of 7 Days to Die: every seventh night, the sky turns red and a relentless wave of zombies converges on your position. Surviving it is the central rhythm of the game and the main test of your base and preparation.
When It Happens
By default the horde arrives every 7 days, though the interval can be adjusted in world settings. On the seventh day the moon glows red, and once night falls the assault begins, continuing until dawn when surviving zombies collapse or wander off.
What Makes It Dangerous
During the Blood Moon, nearly every zombie sprints and pathfinds directly to players regardless of day or night rules. The horde spawns in escalating waves, and its composition scales with your Gamestage:
- Early hordes are mostly standard runners.
- Later hordes add feral, radiated, cop, and eventually demolisher zombies.
- Wave size and toughness grow the longer you survive and the higher your level.
Preparing a Defense
A dedicated horde base pays off. Key principles:
- Build with upgraded materials like concrete or steel that resist block damage.
- Use elevation, catwalks, and drop-downs so zombies funnel into a single kill zone.
- Place traps such as spike blocks, blade traps, and electric fences along their path.
- Keep clear firing lanes and stockpile ammo, repair tools, and healing items.
During the Fight
- Prioritize special zombies, especially cops and demolishers, before they reach your walls.
- Repair damaged blocks between waves to keep your defenses intact.
- Manage stamina and heat; screamers can add to the chaos.
Practical Tips
- Stock food, water, and medical supplies before dusk on day 7.
- Never rely on a single wall; layered defenses buy time.
- Have an escape route in case your base is breached mid-horde.
