Buffs and Debuffs
Buffs and debuffs are temporary status effects in 7 Days to Die that change how your character performs. Buffs help you, debuffs hurt you, and learning to trigger the good ones while curing the bad ones is a core survival skill. Active effects appear as icons near your health bar.
Buffs
Buffs are positive effects gained from food, drink, medicine, or actions. Common examples include:
- Well Fed and Hydrated states that boost your maximum Health and Stamina.
- Beverage buffs from coffee (faster stamina regeneration) or beer.
- Medical buffs from bandages, first aid, and painkillers that heal or block pain effects.
- Resting or comfort buffs gained from sitting or sleeping in a well-built base.
Debuffs
Debuffs are harmful conditions that must be managed or cured before they escalate:
- Bleeding: caused by attacks; stops your health regeneration and drains health until bandaged.
- Infection: contracted from zombie hits; worsens in stages and is cured with antibiotics or honey.
- Food Poisoning: from eating spoiled or risky raw food; causes nausea and stamina loss.
- Sprained or Broken Leg: from falls or heavy hits; slows movement until splinted or cast.
- Dysentery: from drinking unpurified water; causes hydration loss.
- Hypothermia and Heat Stroke: from extreme biome temperatures without proper clothing.
Managing Effects
Prevention is easier than cure. Keep these on hand:
- Bandages and first aid kits for bleeding and general healing.
- Antibiotics, honey, and vitamins to fight infection.
- Splints and casts for limb injuries.
- Weather-appropriate armor and clothing for temperature control.
Practical Tips
- Boil or use filtered water sources to avoid dysentery.
- Cook meat fully before eating to reduce food poisoning risk.
- Treat infection early; the first stage is far easier to cure than later ones.
- Check your active status icons regularly, especially after combat or a fall, so a small debuff does not compound into a deadly one.
