Electricity and Power
Electricity in 7 Days to Die powers lights, traps, workstations, and automated defenses, transforming a basic shelter into a fortified, convenient base. Setting up a reliable power system is a mid-game milestone that pays off heavily on horde nights.
Power Sources
You have several ways to generate electricity, each with trade-offs:
- Generator bank: burns fuel such as gas to produce steady power, but consumes resources continuously.
- Solar panels: draw free power from daylight and pair with batteries, though they are expensive and often hard to find.
- Battery bank: stores energy and can run devices on its own, useful as a buffer or backup.
Each source has a maximum wattage output, so you must size your generation to the total draw of everything connected.
Wiring It Up
Power flows through connections you create with the wire tool. You link a source to a relay or directly to devices, chaining components together. Managing the layout matters:
- Connect the source to a switch or relay first for easy on/off control.
- Branch wires from relays to spread load and organize circuits.
- Keep wiring tidy so you can trace faults later.
Managing Load
Every device draws a certain wattage, and exceeding your source's capacity means some devices will not run. Balance your system by adding more generation, staging non-essential devices on separate switches, or using battery banks to cover peaks.
What You Can Power
- Lighting for visibility and ambiance inside and around the base.
- Electric defenses like blade traps, dart traps, and electric fence posts.
- Automated turrets that fire on approaching enemies.
- Convenience items and some workstations depending on your setup.
Practical Tips
- Use switches and relays to shut down power-hungry traps outside of horde nights and save fuel.
- Protect your generator and battery banks deep inside the base where zombies cannot reach them.
- Combine solar and batteries for a low-maintenance system once you can afford the panels.
- Label or plan circuits before building large trap arrays so troubleshooting stays manageable.
