Forest Biome
The pine forest is the temperate, green biome in 7 Days to Die and the most common starting region for new survivors. Its balanced climate and abundant resources make it the ideal place to learn the game and establish a first base.
Environment
The forest is characterized by rolling terrain, tall pine trees, grass, and scattered points of interest such as houses, farms, and small towns. Temperatures are mild, so you rarely need special clothing to manage heat or cold, letting you focus on the core survival loop of gathering, crafting, and building.
Resources
This biome is generous with the fundamentals you need early on:
- Wood in large quantities from the many trees, essential for tools, frames, and fuel.
- Stone, clay, and small amounts of ore from surface rocks and shallow digging.
- Plant fibers, berries, and other foraging materials found in the grass.
- Animals like deer, rabbits, and chickens for meat and other resources.
Water and Terrain
Lakes, rivers, and ponds are common, providing water you can purify for drinking and cooking. The relatively flat, forgiving terrain makes it easy to lay out a base and dig defensive trenches.
Threats
The pine forest is the safest biome, but it is not harmless. Basic zombies roam roads and buildings, and their numbers grow during blood moons as your game stage rises. Occasional tougher enemies and animals such as wolves or bears can still catch an unprepared player off guard, especially at night.
Why Start Here
New characters typically spawn in or near the forest for good reason. The combination of low environmental danger, plentiful basic resources, and moderate enemy difficulty gives you room to establish tools, food, and shelter before tackling harder regions.
Practical Tips
- Gather a large wood stockpile early since nearly every starting recipe depends on it.
- Set up your first base near water and a trader if possible.
- Use the forgiving conditions to practice base building and horde-night defense.
- Once geared up, use the forest as a safe home while making raids into the desert, snow, or wasteland for better loot.
