Medical Items
Medical items keep you alive by restoring health, stopping bleeding, mending broken limbs, and curing infections. They can be looted from medical buildings, purchased from Traders, or crafted once you have the right recipes and materials.
Healing Items
- Bandages: cheap, easily crafted from cloth; stop minor bleeding and restore a small amount of health over time.
- First Aid Bandage: an upgraded bandage that heals more and stops bleeding faster.
- First Aid Kit: the strongest single-use healer, restoring a large chunk of health and clearing many negative effects.
Treating Injuries
- Splint: sets a broken leg or arm so the limb can recover; crafted from wood and cloth in a pinch.
- Cast: a more durable fix for fractures that speeds healing compared to a splint.
- Painkillers: reduce pain effects and can ease the penalties from injuries.
Fighting Infection
Zombie attacks can cause an infection that worsens over time if untreated, eventually threatening your life.
- Honey: a natural early-game remedy that can cure a low-level infection.
- Antibiotics: reliably reduce and cure infection; found as loot or bought from Traders.
- Herbal Antibiotics: a craftable alternative made from foraged plants like goldenrod, useful when manufactured pills are scarce.
Other Useful Items
- Vitamins: help prevent dysentery from bad water and food.
- Blood Bags: restore health and are also used in some crafting recipes.
Tips
- Always carry bandages and at least one first aid kit before entering dangerous buildings.
- Treat infections early, since higher stages become much harder to cure.
- Invest in the healing-related perks and magazines to unlock crafting of the better medical items.
