Multiplayer
7 Days to Die supports cooperative and competitive multiplayer, letting you survive the apocalypse alongside friends or against other players. Teaming up makes base building, looting, and surviving Blood Moon hordes far more manageable, though it also raises the overall challenge.
Ways to Play Together
There are several ways to get a group into the same world.
- Host a game directly from the client, which lets friends join your session while you play.
- Run a dedicated server, which stays online independently and supports more players and better stability for larger groups.
- Join public or friends-only servers through the in-game server browser.
Cooperative Play
Most groups play cooperatively, pooling resources and dividing tasks. One player might focus on mining and building while another scavenges loot or hunts. Shared storage, workstations, and a communal base speed up progression significantly. Because Game Stage scales with the players present, hordes grow tougher as your group grows, so coordinated defense is essential on the seventh night.
PvP Considerations
Servers can enable player versus player combat, where other survivors become a genuine threat. On PvP servers you must guard against raids on your base and ambushes while looting. Land claim blocks help protect your structures by reducing how quickly other players can damage them within a claimed area.
Server Settings and Etiquette
Server hosts can adjust many options to shape the experience.
- Maximum player count and world size.
- Whether PvP or friendly fire is enabled.
- Loot respawn, experience rates, and horde frequency.
- Land claim protection strength and duration.
When joining a community server, read its rules first. Many communities restrict griefing, base raiding during offline hours, or certain exploits. Good communication, whether by in-game chat or voice, is the key to a smooth cooperative run and to surviving the escalating hordes together.
