Perks
Perks are the individual skills you unlock and upgrade in 7 Days to Die to gain specific gameplay bonuses. They sit beneath the five attributes and are the main way you customize how your survivor fights, crafts, and survives.
How Perks Work
Each perk falls under one of the five attributes: Perception, Strength, Fortitude, Agility, or Intellect. You purchase ranks in a perk using skill points earned from leveling.
- Every perk has multiple ranks, each stronger than the last.
- Investing higher ranks usually requires a matching minimum attribute level.
- Bonuses apply immediately once purchased.
This structure means your attribute choices determine which perks you can fully develop.
Types of Perks
Perks cover a wide range of benefits, letting you build toward almost any playstyle.
- Combat perks boost damage and handling for specific weapon families like rifles, shotguns, knives, or clubs.
- Gathering perks improve mining, harvesting, and salvage yields.
- Crafting perks unlock recipes and increase the quality of what you can build.
- Utility perks enhance stamina, carrying capacity, healing, stealth, and trading.
Choosing perks that reinforce one another creates a focused, effective survivor.
Magazines and Learn-by-Reading
Alongside skill-point perks, much of your crafting knowledge comes from reading magazines found as loot. Collecting issues of a magazine series unlocks and improves related recipes, complementing the perk system.
- Perks handle core stats and combat effectiveness.
- Magazines drive many crafting unlocks and progression toward better gear.
Planning Your Perks
Skill points are limited, so spend them deliberately. Early investment in your primary weapon and a few quality-of-life perks pays off quickly.
- Prioritize the combat perk matching your main weapon.
- Add gathering or crafting perks to support your base and economy.
- Round out with stamina, carrying, or healing perks for survivability.
Tips
- Focus perks under one or two attributes for a strong specialist.
- Revisit your build as you find gear that changes your playstyle.
- Pair perks with the right magazines to maximize crafting power.
Well-chosen perks turn a struggling survivor into a capable one.
