Temperature
Temperature is an environmental survival mechanic in 7 Days to Die that affects your comfort and, in extremes, your Health. Both your surroundings and your own body temperature matter, and keeping the latter within a safe range is part of staying alive across the game's varied biomes.
How Temperature Works
The game tracks the temperature of the environment around you and your resulting body temperature. Several factors push your body temperature up or down.
- The biome you are in, from freezing snowy regions to scorching deserts.
- Time of day and weather, since nights and storms are colder.
- Nearby heat sources such as campfires and forges, which warm you.
- The clothing and armor you wear, which insulate against heat or cold.
Effects of Extreme Temperatures
If your body temperature strays too far from a comfortable middle, you suffer negative conditions. Extreme cold can cause you to become freezing, while extreme heat can leave you overheated. These states can reduce Stamina performance and, if severe and prolonged, chip away at your Health. Managing temperature is therefore especially important when exploring hostile biomes.
Managing Cold
In cold environments, focus on insulation and warmth.
- Wear warm clothing such as insulated or layered outfits.
- Stay near heat sources like a lit campfire.
- Consume hot foods and drinks that raise body temperature.
- Avoid getting wet, since it makes cold worse.
Managing Heat
In hot environments, do the opposite to shed warmth.
- Wear lighter clothing suited to heat rather than heavy insulation.
- Keep well hydrated, as heat drains water faster.
- Limit exertion during the hottest parts of the day.
- Seek shade or cooler indoor and underground spaces.
Practical Tips
Match your clothing to the biome and plan expeditions with the climate in mind. Carry appropriate gear for both extremes if you travel widely, keep hydration high in the heat, and stay near warmth in the cold so temperature never becomes the thing that ends your run.
