Traders
Traders are non-player characters in 7 Days to Die who run fortified outposts where survivors can buy and sell goods, take on quests, and find relative safety. They are central to progression, economy, and steady rewards.
Trader Outposts
Each trader operates from a walled compound guarded by turrets and defenses. The gates open during daytime hours and lock at night, making the interior a secure place to regroup, though you cannot enter while it is closed.
- Protected by automated defenses that kill hostile zombies and players who misbehave.
- Contains a trading terminal, quest board, and often a small vending area.
- Safe haven during the day for repairs, sorting loot, and planning.
Buying and Selling
Traders deal in the in-game currency, Duke's Casino Tokens, known simply as Dukes. You sell surplus loot for Dukes and spend them on gear you need.
- Inventory rotates and restocks periodically, so check back often.
- Prices are affected by perks like Better Barter, which improves buying and selling rates.
- Traders stock weapons, armor, tools, ammo, seeds, vehicles, and crafting resources.
Quests
Quests are the biggest reason to visit traders. Completing them earns Dukes, experience, and reward choices from a selection of items.
- Fetch and clear missions send you to nearby Points of Interest.
- Quest tiers increase in difficulty and reward as you complete more for a given trader.
- Higher tiers unlock access to better stock and more valuable rewards.
Trader Progression
Working with a single trader raises your standing and unlocks higher quest tiers, which reveal stronger inventory. Several distinct traders exist, each with a personality and a slight specialty in what they stock.
Tips
- Sell items you will not use to fund key purchases.
- Chain quests to build loot stage, experience, and reward tier quickly.
- Use outposts as forward bases when exploring dangerous regions.
Traders reward consistent engagement, making them a reliable engine for gearing up.
