Wellness
Wellness (also referred to as maximum Health and Stamina caps in later versions) represents your character's long-term condition in 7 Days to Die, determining how high your Health and Stamina pools can rise above their starting baseline. Managing it well is central to surviving the harsher biomes and Blood Moon nights.
Overview
Every survivor begins with a modest baseline of roughly 100 Health and 100 Stamina. Wellness reflects how well-fed, hydrated, and cared-for your character has been over time. As you eat quality food and drink clean water, your maximum caps climb; as you starve, dehydrate, or take repeated damage from illness, they fall back down.
Raising Your Caps
The most reliable way to increase your maximums is through food and drink:
- Cooked and crafted meals (such as meat stew, bacon and eggs, or vegetable dishes) raise your caps more than raw ingredients.
- Clean drinking water and beverages like coffee or tea keep hydration high.
- Certain consumables temporarily boost your maximum Health or Stamina for a set duration.
Keeping both your Food and Water meters near full over an extended period is what lets your effective maximums stay elevated.
Losing Wellness
Neglect drives your caps down. Watch for:
- Letting Food or Water drop to zero, which causes ongoing damage and lowered maximums.
- Food poisoning from spoiled or risky raw foods.
- Untreated infection, which steadily degrades your condition.
Practical Tips
- Cook everything you can at a Campfire; cooked food is safer and more nourishing than raw.
- Farm crops and hunt animals early so you have a steady supply of high-quality meals.
- Craft or loot painkillers, antibiotics, and honey to counter conditions that sap your wellbeing.
- Carry water and a portable food supply on long looting runs so your meters never bottom out.
Treat wellness as a resource you invest in gradually. A survivor who eats well and stays hydrated will have noticeably larger Health and Stamina reserves when the horde arrives.
